Rick and Karen Langhart- Founders

Rick, Karen and Erika Langhart
on Erika's second birthday.

Rick and Karen Langhart have owned and operated their own businesses for over 30 years and have collective experience in managing, motivating and inspiring those around them.  Rick began his career managing for the Chart House restaurants in Dana Point, California and Aspen, Colorado before owning and operating his own restaurant, together with his wife Karen, successfully,  for over 20 years.  Rick served as City Councilman in Durango, Colorado; the community where he and Karen raised their family and owned businesses..  In addition to running their businesses; Rick served as President of the Restaurant Association, Durango Area Chamber and Resort Association, and the Durango Rotary Club.  He was honored with the Paul Harris Rotary Fellowship award for service to the community.

Karen graduated from the school of Architecture, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, summa cum laude and upon graduation was hired by Design Workshop of Aspen, Colorado. Karen served as President of the Advisory Parent Board, the Design Review Board for the City of Durango, the Fort Lewis College Foundation Board, the Durango Area Chamber and Resort Association Marketing Board, and the Mercy Hospital Foundation Board.  Karen was honored with the Athena Award for women in business.

In addition to operating their restaurant, Richard and Karen designed and owned a number of land development projects, all of which included a component of land donated to conservation easements.  These projects includes Farview Estates, Valle Vista Estates, Windom Ranch, and Windom West in Durango, Colorado.  They also purchased and planned resort property in the country of Panama.

Richard and Karen designed and patented a device which protects children from injury and death.  This product was sold to the Hunter Douglas Corporation and is now distributed worldwide.

Richard and Karen believe their greatest accomplishment is to have raised two caring and contributing children – Erika and Kyle.  Kyle now lives happily with his wife Alizee LaRoche in Denver, Colorado; both graduates of Johnson and Wales University.  Erika will never know the happiness of a career, marriage and raising a family; which is the Langharts greatest sadness and, in turn, their greatest motivation to try to do all that they can to help make a difference in the lives of American women and their families.
